10 Gender Neutral Nursery Decorating Ideas You’ll Love Now & They’ll Love Later.
In the past, the trend was to go all in by decorating your nursery with the gender of your baby in mind. People would use lots of pink, light blue or yellow. And that was it.
But the tides are turning and times have changed.
In more recent years the trend has become to design your nursery toward more gender neutral spaces. The focus is much more on good design, rather than traditional boy/girl palettes.
Here are 10 of my favorite gender-neutral nursery ideas, as well as some tips and ideas you can steal for your own Baby’s room.
Gray is the New Yellow
While Yellow is still a great color for a gender neutral nursery, gray seems to be your best bet for a fresh and modern update. The thing with Gray is that it’s so versatile, it can be paired with any color palette. You can use it bright and vibrant hues or keep it simple with a more monochrome palette.
Wall Murals are All Grown Up
Wall murals are another area in kids’ room decor that have gotten a major upgrade. The days of simple baby ducks or clouds are gone. Here is one of my favorite sources of modern wall decals.
Bring the Warmth with Wood
Using wood elements in a nursery is the perfect way to bring in some warmth and rustic vibes. Creating a wood wall is a fun option; however, you can easily achieve the same look by using wood furniture or decor.
Add a Style Punch with some Graphic Wallpaper
A bold, graphic wallpaper is another great idea for upping the design game in your nursery. Use temporary wallpaper if you want less of a permanent solution. And if you’re afraid to dive in and wallpaper the whole room, consider doing it on just one wall for more of an accent.
The Gallery Wall Comes to the Nursery
Gallery walls are everywhere in design, and there’s no reason not to bring this trend into your nursery. Beautiful illustrations from children’s books are displayed in varying sizes of simple white frames.
Animals Work for Boys & Girls
While I made a joke earlier about baby ducks, the truth is animal decor is a fun trend that still works fantastically for gender-neutral nursery. You can choose to stick with a theme or feature one type of animal, you can even use the coloring of the animal as inspiration for your color palette. (Gray for an elephant)
Try Dark Paint Colors
Using a dark paint color in a nursery is not something that is traditionally used however, it’s a great way to bring a modern, gender-neutral feel to your space. Much like gray, darker colors serve as a beautiful backdrop for spaces that you want to feature additional pops of color in. And art looks especially fab against a darker wall. (e.i. gallery wall)
Black and White Palettes Always Work
A black and white color palette is another tried and true go-to for a space where you don’t want things to feel either too masculine or feminine. You can choose to keep everything in the space black and white if you’re looking for a nursery to feel more cohesive. And pops of colors can be introduced through accent pieces you choose.
